Make Life Easier with a Single Set of Prescription Eyeglasses!
If you have grown tired of switching back and forth between prescription sunglasses and indoor prescription eyeglasses, consider making the switch to “photochromic” lenses. These lenses darken and lighten in accordance with the amount of ultraviolet (UV) light to which they are exposed. This transformation is made possible by an active ingredient in the lens called “silver halide.”
When the lenses come in contact with UV rays, the molecules of silver halide embedded throughout the lens undergo a chemical process that changes their shape. This new structuring of molecules causes them to absorb portions of the visible light, resulting in lens darkening. The technology enables wearers to have one set of glasses that is suitable for both indoors and out. Photochromic lenses are available in nearly all lens materials and designs, including high-index lenses, bifocals, and progressive lenses. An added benefit of photochromic lenses is that they shield your eyes from 100 percent of the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays.
